FundraisingThrough the hard work of many dedicated volunteers over many years, the Edmonton Chargers Football Club is able to provide our players with many significant benefits. We have a large selection of high quality equipment with sizes to fit all of our players. We believe in team building activities and bus our teams to and from all away games. We have a wonderful clubhouse. Facilities at the clubhouse include a well stocked equipment room, individual dressing rooms for each team, a girls dressing room, 3 large screen TVs for watching game film, a large lounge area for parents and players, a coaches room, a well equipped office, kitchen and boardroom. We even have a pool table for Bantams and Midgets that earn the privilege of playing.
As you can imagine, maintaining all of this costs a significant amount of money. We work hard to keep registration fees at the lowest possible level but the money has to come from somewhere. That somewhere is primarily through fundraising activities.
As a Charger parent you will be required to perform some of these fundraising activities. Your required commitments vary depending on the team your child(ren) play for. Midgets have a short season and 2 fundraising activities are required per player at this level. Families of Bantam and Peewee players are required to perform 4 fundraising activities per player. Families of Atom players are required to perform 3 fundraising activities per player.
In the past, bingos were our primary fundraising activity but the popularity of the game has waned in recent years and we no longer participate.
Concessions have become our primary fundraising activity. We BBQ hamburgers and hotdogs at many types of events. These include our own team practices, home games and playoff games. We also provide concessions at Edmonton Wildcats and Huskies home games. There are lots of opportunities to work concessions and if you're new to the club we'll make sure that you're teamed up with someone who knows the ropes.
Casinos have also become an important part of our fundraising portfolio. These generate a considerable amount of money for the club but we only get the opportunity every 2 years or so.
From time to time other activities are arranged that qualify as fundraising activities. Examples include catering for the UofA Golden Bear rookies during their spring camp or the Edmonton Wildcats during theirs.
Each of these activities provide an opportunity for you to fulfill your fundraising commitments and enjoy the company of some fellow Charger parents. Sign-up books are available at the clubhouse and I urge you to sign up early to do your part to ensure our children get the best possible experience during their Edmonton Charger years!
There are also some fundraising actvities distributed across the entire club that do not qualify for registration commitments. These include Chocolate Covered Almond sales and the annual Silent Auction. Don't forget that you can help to win prizes for your children by selling Almonds on their behalf; the player who sells the most at each level earns a prize and the player with the most sales overall earns a leather and melton team jacket! The Silent Auction has become a mainstay of the football season for many. It's a great opportunity for parents, coaches, staff and alumni to socialize in an adult friendly environment and maybe even get a little Christmas shopping done. We do ask that families try to solicit auction items from local businesses.
